For my work as Graphic Design and Marketing Intern for the Block Island Harbors Committee community art piece installation, I was tasked with creating digital renderings of an eccentric park bench art installation in the shape of a boat. The bench, shaped like the Block Island “double-ender” boat which is tied to Block Island’s history, was designed to be used as a practical park bench and charging station equipped with a solar panel and wind turbine on the mast and a rotating crochet sail composed of granny squares that honor the type of community art that it may use. I made a mockup that reflected this need with digital renderings of the shape, usability, and examples of the granny square art mosaic. Later on, I was tasked with redoing the mockups in the style of a smaller boat that was donated for the installation. The second rendering was also changed to reflect new ideas for the design. The hull is colored rainbow to show how it might be painted in partnership with Gay Block Island, a local LGBTQ+ awareness organization, and the sail is redone in a more minimal style with hearts in honor of Valentine’s day. Below are the mockups, a slide deck I made for the project proposal, and some of the process details.
